PGT established itself as the leader in impact-resistant windows and doors after Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida in 1992. PGT was the first manufacturer to offer a complete line of residential aluminum impact-resistant windows and doors approved by Miami-Dade Building Product Control - which enforces the strictest codes in the United States for wind-borne debris and wind loading. PGT also helped develop the testing protocols required by these stringent codes.
WinGuard Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors continue to provide consumers with proven safety and security. More than two million WinGuard units have been installed with zero reported impact failures. Demand for impact-resistant windows and doors continues to be strong, and PGT continues to expand the WinGuard product line by introducing more energy-efficient WinGuard products that feature vinyl frames and standard laminated insulating glass. These enhancements enabled PGT to expand WinGuard into new markets along the eastern and Gulf coastlines. The same storm protection found in WinGuard is available to multi-family and high rise dwellers through PGT's Architectural Systems Windows and Doors with optional impact-resistant laminated glass. Engineered for high design loads and enhanced water performance, this custom-made product line provides innovative and flexible solutions for mid-rise and high-rise buildings. Recognized by the building industry as the ideal choice for commercial projects in wind-borne and non-wind-borne debris areas, PGT's Architectural Systems offers strength and functionality with no compromise on aesthetics. The product was designed to be used in a range of high-rise and commercial applications, including condominiums, hotels, offices, retail and educational buildings.
PGT's newest offering, Vinyl Series 2100, answers consumer demands for energy-efficiency and the beauty of wood without the hassles. The wood-like details are unsurpassed and include brickmould frames, contour grids, simulated divided lites, wood-like trim detail and Super Spacer® technology. PGT's 5-day delivery time for Series 2100 on all orders - regardless of options - is unprecedented in the industry. Series 2100 windows are for new construction and offer a lifetime of trouble-free performance.
When PGT was founded, the company focused on vinyl glazed windows, which were used as porch enclosure systems. Today this line, called Eze-Breeze Sliding Panels, continues to be popular with remodelers and porch enclosure contractors. Eze-Breeze offers more protection from weather and dust than screen panels. It's resilient, shatter-proof vinyl glazing is also an excellent enclosure solution for spa/wet areas, golf-course homes or other areas where glass isn't a "sensible" material.
To provide independent distributors and trade professionals with professional and comprehensive training and support, PGT opened the doors to PGT University in 2000. To date, more than 15,000 building professionals have been trained by PGT University.
PGT operates out of its 485,000 square foot manufacturing headquarters in N. Venice, FL; a 390,000 square foot plant in Salisbury, NC; and a Lexington, NC plant of 230,000 square feet.
In 2006, PGT listed its stock on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol PGTI. |
